AWCA has adopted project specific subcommittees. Each Portfolio champion leads that specific project and the other committee members offer a support role.
Nomcebo Mkhize CA (SA)
Chairperson
Nomcebo is an Investment Executive of Imbewu Capital Partners (Pty) Ltd, a private equity and investment holding business based in KwaZulu Natal. Prior to joining Imbewu, Nomcebo worked for the Nedbank Capital Corporate Finance division and the financial services division of PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”).
Nomcebo holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree from the University of Natal. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. She also served as General Secretary of the Johannesburg branch of the Association for the advancement of Black Accountants in Southern Africa (“ABASA”).
She is currently a director of Imbewu Capital Partners (Pty) Ltd, Container Conversions (Pty) Ltd, GMA Logistics (Pty) Ltd and Icon Construction (Pty) Ltd.
Thabang Redman CA(SA)
Deputy Chairperson
Thabang Redman is a qualified chartered accountant currently employed as a Project Accountant at ABI, the Softdrink division of SAB Limited in the KZN Region. She completed her articles training contract in 2007 and immediately joined SABMiller as a financial planner in the Prospecton Brewery. In 2009 she joined the Softdrink division, ABI as Project Accountant.
Thabang matriculated at Lebowakgomo Commercial College in Polokwane, Limpopo. She then studied BComm Accounting at University of Kwazulu Natal (UKZN Howard College) where she completed her BComm Degree and BComm Honours Degree. Thabang is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a registered member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
She is currently serving as a board member of the African Women Chartered Accountants. She is the deputy chairperson for the KZN Region of AWCA and holds the portfolio of Marketing and Communication.
Nirakasha Sookraj CA(SA)
Committee Member
Nirakasha Sookraj is an Audit Supervisor at Moore Stephens CJL Chartered Accountants. She has recently completed her articles Moore Stephens CJL Chartered Accountants. Nirakasha holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal and Bachelor of Accounting Science (CTA) from University of South Africa. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Nonkululeko Cheryl-Anne Shezi
Committee Member
Ms Shezi completed her three-year training contract with Deloitte & Touche in Durban, from March 2004 to February 2007. In March 2007, she relocated to Pretoria to join one of Transnet’s divisions, Transnet Rail Engineering, as a Management Accountant.
In May 2009, she moved back to KZN to join the Sugar division within the group of Tongaat Hulett, as a Business Analyst. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in February 2010.
When Ms Shezi has leisure time, she enjoys reading magazines, watching movies and dining with friends.
Thuth Mbhele
Committee Member
Thuthu Mbhele is a chartered accountant and registered auditor. She is a partner/director of PricewaterhouseCoopers and has been with PwC for ten years, where she started off serving her training period. Based in the Durban office, she specialises in external auditing across a broad range of clients including those in leisure and gaming, media and healthcare.
She holds several memberships including the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants in South Africa (ABASA), and African Women’s Chartered Accountants Association (AWCA) where she is a member of their KZN Regional Committee.
Thuthu comes from Pietermaritzburg, matriculated at Pholela High School in Bulwer, KZN and holds a BCom (Accounting) and Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Cape Town. She is married and has 1 child.
Thuthu bases her success on striving for excellence in everything she does. She lives by the motto,”be the change you want to see in the world. It’s the only way to make a difference.” Her advice to other women aspiring to leadership positions is that we all live in a time of equal opportunities and it is up to an individual to seize every opportunity and learn as much as possible. They must set clear goals for themselves, persevere and find themselves an effective support system and mentor.
