Programmes

School Visits

Structured school visits are done in KZN by AWCA members. Members are encouraged to use the school visit packs that are provided on school visits. These packs contain information on tertiary institutions, bursaries and much more.
 
During 2010, the KZN AWCA members conducted school visits around KZN. Schools visited include Phindavele Secondary, Groutville High, Lihlithemba High and Mthusi High
 

2. Nurture and Train:

 
In addition to the existing bursary students, 2 new second year students were sourced from UKZN in 2010 based on academic excellence and financial need. One honours student is also funded by the Fund in 2011.
 

Mentorship; Power Teas

 
The first Power Tea was hosted at the Oyster Box in May 2010 sponsored by ABSA Capital and the second was hosted at the Zimbali Resort in September 2010 sponsored by Apollo tyres. The first 2011 Power Tea was sponsored by Unilever, held in May 2011.
 

FQE Celebrations

A very successful congratulatory dinner was held in honour of the KZN newly qualified female CAs in March 2010.
 
 

Career Conference

The career conference is a great opportunity for trainees completing articles to gain information on the career options available in corporate & government. More than 80 KZN trainees attended the 2010 conference held in partnership with ABASA KZN. Companies that participated included Apollo Tyres, Standard Bank, Unilever, Frontline Solutions and others
 

3. Leadership Development

 
Mentorship Programme
The mentorship programme was launched at the first KZN Power Tea in May 2010 and conducted by professional coaching company Results Workplace Coaching. This programme is continuing to be a great success and very positive response has been received from both mentors and mentees.
 

Leadership Workshop

 
The first AWCA leadership workshop was held in KZN by Freeman Nomvalo (Acct Gen: National Treasury) in August 2010.
 

Out to Lunch

The first Out to Lunch event was held in October 2009 with the KZN MEC for Finance, Ms Ina Cronje.  
 
 

CSI Initiatives:

 
WeCare

In 2010, the AWCA KZN supported WeCare with food parcels being delivered to Thembalethu Care Centre in Lamontville and Nkosinathi Project at the Cathedral in Durban
 

Other CSI Projects

In 2010, over R60 000 was raised for the Bamba Izandla Pre-school prefabricated unit
