The Power Tea is one of the programmes that fall under “Leadership Development” as part of AWCA’s three tier strategy. It has become increasingly popular with members since its inception.
The Power Tea is a platform for mentorship and networking, with an added element of ladylike fun. At these events, members have access to mentors and industry champions who speak on different leadership styles, personal growth and share their lessons learnt with those in attendance. It creates a space for members and keynote speakers to be candid and honest about their experiences, to share their stories as women, and to learn from, inspire and teach each other.
Women are encouraged to celebrate and embrace their femininity as leaders and to be successful in various aspects of their lives as mothers, sisters, wives and partners, and positive members in society.
This year the Power Tea events carry the theme of “Be Bold, Be Fearless, Be You!”
The “Be Bold” talks were aimed at inspiring a revitalization of delegates’ passion for realizing their own goals. The second leg of the theme, “Be Fearless,” will create and strengthen the resolve to put goals into action, and the third instalment, “Be You,” aims to bring each woman attending, closer to her most authentic and fulfilled self.
The first part of the series (“Be Bold”) was held in Gauteng and Western Cape in April this year and in KZN during the month of May.
In Gauteng, the keynote address was given by Ms. Phuthi Mahanyele (CEO of Shanduka Group), who spoke about breaking free of one’s own comfort zones to boldly explore new territory. Ms. Zanele Nkosi (Professional Coach and Motivational Speaker) also contributed to the success of the Power Tea by delivering a mentorship talk on prioritizing and honouring goals with integrity.
The Cape Town delegates were treated to a sparkling event at the House of JC le Roux in Stellenbosch. Keynote speaker Ms. Delphine Govender (CIO at Perpetua Investment Managers) related the boldness and courage she had to muster in starting her own investment company.
In KZN main speakers were Ms. Ruwayda Ebrahim (Partner at Deloitte SA) and Ms. Tumi Frazier (International Motivational Speaker, Career Coach and Author). Ms. Ebrahim spoke about her career journey, motivation and the power of visualization, while Ms. Frazier discussed overcoming adversity and creating support structures.
Our intention is that all these empowering talks from the plethora of speakers ultimately lead to the development and improvement of the leadership skill and style of our members.
We’re aware that all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl, and as such, the Power Tea Subcommittee infuses an element of fun to the Power Teas having a combination of mini spa treatments, entertainment, and raffle prize draws at each event.
All of this is only possible through the AWCA’s partnership with the following entities:
- AWCA KSN – Unilever;
- AWCA Gauteng - PPC Women’s Forum Barloworld; Mangwanani, True Love Magazine; Fin Week; Media 24; Distell and Avon;
- AWCA Western Cape – EY; House of JC Le Roux; Mangwanani and Women’s Health Magazine.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the abovementioned sponsors and all those who have partnered with the AWCA in the past.
We look forward to seeing our members at the second and third instalments of this year’s themed sequence in order to complete the journey to discovering a more bolder, fearless YOU!
