Power Tea 23 November 2013
Date 23 November 2013
The last AWCA Power Tea for 2013 was a day filled with fabulosity, good conversation, good food and good life lessons. The Winston Hotel, in Melrose, was overtaken by women drenched in bright summer colours, fascinators and women ready to engage in conversation on topical issues.
Our theme for the second and final installment of our Power Tea Series for 2013 was Be Fearless. Our Tea kicked off with a coaching session hosted by coaching royalty, Queen Ramotsehoa. The emphasis of this session was that, saying you're fearless is not that same as being fearless. That fear we all have inside that stops us from achieving goals was finally given an apt name, “The Terror Barrier". We learned that when faced with this Terror Barrier, we have one of three options, Fleeing, Fighting or Freezing. Queen emphasized that winners will always fight fears to cross the Terror Barrier and break free from what is holding them back. It is from this point of freedom that we can unlock our potential, the very potential that our panellists insisted South African Women possess but fail to unlock. The coaching session was appreciated by all women who attended as we could all agree that there was at least one time in our lives where fear has crippled us.
The panel we had could not be more fitting for the issues being addressed at the Be Fearless Power Tea. BBC UK journalist Lerato Mbele, South African Entrepreneur and Jeweller Jenna Clifford, renowned Economist Thabi Leoka and Queen Ramotsehoa, graced us with their fabulosity, strength, intelligence and wise words of advice.
Each panellist brought a different element to the conversation, however, all panellists were in agreement that women in South Africa need to work together and uplift each other to unlock the potential that our country possesses. "Being an educated black woman should not be a surprise anymore. The world has moved past this" were powerful words said by Thabi. It is only through knowing our fears, embracing the potential we have, identifying the terror barrier and crossing the terror barrier, that we as women can achieve goals beyond our wildest imaginations.
The day was rounded up with delicious dessert and a wine pairing session. Our well deserving guests were treated with hand, foot and shoulder massages throughout the day. The final power tea for 2013 was an absolute success and we hope that 2014 will also bring laughs and lessons for our AWCA members.
A big thank you to all our sponsors for making the day a success, Deloitte, Jenna Clifford, Rain urban boutique spar and Lazarus Motor Company.
Thank you to all our members who attended, we look forward to Being Bold, Fearless and celebrating You in 2014!
